The NU design has two integral flanges on the outer ring. It can accommodate axial movement of the shaft relative to the housing in both directions and supports larger radial loads than an equal-sized deep groove ball bearing with a high maximum RPM limit. They can sustain axial loads, but it requires careful consideration to avoid extreme wear of the faces. They can locate the shaft axially with the appropriate angle ring to stabilize axial movement in one direction.
